has he coached any pros?

Das real shyt tho, u gotat start early, I wish i knew that.

its so many nikkas who could play pro, or at the very least get a scholarship, if they took shyt seriously, and didnt try to wait to the last minute to start playin :snoop:

Yeah, a lot of cats could get scholarships, especially if you're tall. You can get your tuition to a state or ivy league school covered and be set for life just based on the leadership experience and opportunities it gives you if you're tall and you have minimal skill. A lot of cats from the hood just don't take advantage of that. shyt some cats could make it overseas.

But yeah, my pops was refereeing all the games......Public league, catholic league, AAU.........Doing that you pretty much know everyone. All the major players in Philly on the basketball scene. He's known Kobe and his pops forever.......

I don't think the average person has any understanding of just how fukking good you have to be to make it into the NBA.....Once you watch high school basketball it's abundantly clear who even has shot at the league let alone actually making it. Like for instance Kyle Lowry (Houston Rockets) was a fukking BEAST in high school, like clearly just better than EVERYONE in Philly. You could be at a Philly basketball all star game and he'd just be out there dominating everyone. Saw this with my own eyes.

I had a friend who was on varsity at my high school and we'd play ball everyday in gym and he would just dominate everyone. We joked and said he might have been the best gym player in the history of our high school. When he actually played in games he wasn't the same. For instance, Maureece Rice (played at George washington and Strawberry Mansion in Philly)....highest scoring player in Philadelphia Public League history (broke Wilt's record) he played my high school and although he wasn't the most athletic, he could score better than everyone in the city of Philadelphia. My high school put up a fight but we just didn't have a chance. Most of the city was just overmatched against dude but When Strawberry Mansion played Lebron's high school when they traveled to Philly....Lebron and them dominated. Reece Rice had one good crossover on Bron but pretty much Strawberry Mansion was NEVER in the game against Lebron's high school. Bron is 28, I'm 27 right now. When he went to the league I was in 12th grade......That pretty much let me know how far down the totem pole the people I considered to be good players were......

I pretty much knew that Maureece Rice wasn't a pro ball player (maybe a scorer off the bench a la Eddie House if he was lucky) and I knew that damn near no one I knew in Philly (at least in the public league.....catholic league [kyle lowry] played in that) was going to NBA.

When literally the highest scoring player in Philadelphia Public League history doesn't make the league it tells you how good you have to be.

when a nikkka is 5'10 in 10th grade and told u too small to play in the post :snoop: i was mini shaq, with a average handle and no jump shot. i despise nikkkas 6'10 nikkkas with jump shots and no low post presence and don't like to get physical, that shyt hurts.

if i knew what i knew now, nikka would have spent more time on baseball :manny:

We used to read this site tedsilary.com damn near every day in high school....This guy covers high school sports. This guy covered the top players he's seen in Philly basketball (public league & Catholic league) over 35 seasons.........He list the top 5 then has the other names by school so names like Wayne Ellington, Kyle Lowry, Lyn Greer (went to my high school) aren't even in the top 5.

http://www.tedsilary.com/BB35yearteam.htm

RASHEED WALLACE
Simon Gratz, 6-10, '93 Incredibly athletic for his size; even ran track. Regarded as the best tall prospect to come out of Philadelphia since Wilt Chamberlain (Overbrook '55). Led Bulldogs to three Public League championships in 4 years ('90, '91, '93) and a 110-9 overall record. Three times made first-team All-City. Accumulated 1,690 career points, 1,573 rebounds and 661 blocks. Made second-team All-America in second and final season at North Carolina. Played 15 NBA seasons and won a title with Detroit in '04.

EDDIE GRIFFIN
Roman Catholic, 6-9, '00 Smooth and talented. Parade magazine was one of numerous media outlets to name him the national player of the year in 2000. Like Wallace, he was twice the Daily News' City Player of the Year. Spurred the Cahillites to the '00 Catholic League title while averaging 25.4 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks. Scored 1,656 career points. Was named national freshman of the year at Seton Hall, then entered the NBA. Progress was sidetracked by personal problems. Died in August 2007 of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
LIONEL SIMMONS
Southern, 6-6, '86 Talented, heady and unselfish with the heart of a lion. Led Rams to Public League title in '86. Made second-team All-City as a junior. Made first team as a senior when he averaged 32.8 points and 17.5 rebounds. Scored 1,539 career points (game high of 56). Consensus national college player of the year in 1990 at La Salle, where he scored 3,217 career points. His NBA career was limited to seven seasons by knee miseries.
JEROME "POOH" RICHARDSON
Ben Franklin, 6-1, 1985 Quintessential point guard. Almost always made the correct decision and competed like crazy. Franklin went 66-6 in his three years as a starter and won the Public League title in '84. Averaged 17 points and 11 assists as a senior, 15 and nine for his career. Twice made first team All-City and was the Player of the Year in '85. Starred at UCLA. Played 10 NBA seasons.
MAUREECE RICE
Strawberry Mansion, 6-0, 2003 "The Scorelord" dislodged '55 Overbrook grad Wilt Chamberlain (2,206) as the leading point producer in city history (2,681) and thrice led the Public League in points per game. Starter for Pub champs in '00 and '02. As a senior, he averaged 29.1 points, five rebounds, four assists and 3.3 steals. Co-Player of the Year as a senior. Also a first-teamer in '02 and a second-teamer in '01. Played his college ball at George Washington. Has continued his career in minor league ball.

Just seeing beast like these guys come out of the Public and Catholic league it's obvious that myself and most cats don't even have a shot. I'm sure cats remember Lyn Greer (Temple U) tearing up the NCAA tournament.....He's NOT in the league. Hoop Dreams aren't like music dreams....you can only hang on to them for so long since it's so structured, you gotta go through school, you get drafted or make it over seas.. You kinda either have the potential or you don't...........I will never understand how some cats can hold on to them too long.

I tried out for Varsity basketball once.....It was basically a scrimmage, shirts vs skins, nothing more. I was on fire, like totally dominated....but in reality it didn't mean shyt, the competition I was playing in my scrimmage wasn't shyt. The Coach for our school used to already know who he wanted for varsity before he even held tryouts. Tryouts were basically a formality and to be honest it's easy to understand why. He saw people play every day in gym, he knew what he needed for his team and who would be a good fit; who the best players in the school were. Because of my size I could only play point guard, there were at least 5 people in my own grade who'd play the position better than me. I ended up playing baseball 1 season at DH before I quit (because I knew I wasn't going anywhere because I didn't enjoy it [baseball practice fukking sucks] anymore and cared more about doing music)
