The next generation will be all about Open World Games. Straight up and down hallway games such as Uncharted for example aren't coming out as much. The Evil Within is relatively straight forward and The Last of Us (Naughty Dog games) will be pretty straight forward. Other than that, it feels like Open World Games are taking over. Once Red Dead Redemption 2 drops even more companies are gonna follow that style.
As its looking right now, the next generation actually is looking like a micro transaction explosion. 'Games as a service' is the new gimmick closing out this generation, big companies have seen the profits they can make off gamers who cant help but spend that extra bread. AAA titles are all gonna be forced into microtransaction-fests, whether its an FPS, RPG, open world, whatever. We are even seeing the beginnings of this in single player games with Shadow of war. They are testing the market to see how far they can reach into gamers pockets for next gen.
Im really worried about this... Companies arent going with the Overwatch model of cosmetics only lootboxes, that Star Wars game is gonna be the new model. Look at what they did to NBA2k even. That fun 'mycareer' mode from a few years ago is now a shytshow of microtransactions. Now imagine what 2k games will do with Borderlands 3, a series that was built on progression and opening in game chests for a chance to get better equips. You already know the drop rates in BL3 will be fukking horrible and they will want you to drop money on extra chests. They might even make it take much longer to level up and offer paid ways to level up quicker.
Even if we all decide not to drop bread on microtransactions some idiot will, just like that report that one dude spent 15k on ME3 microtransactions. ME3s multiplayer was a fukking afterthought, so imagine the bread people spend on games with more valuable multiplayer...
