It doesn't get classic. It's the most overrated TV show of all-time. Not worthy of touching Seinfeld's jock.

:wtf:

"AD" barely lasted 3 seasons and got cancelled. The only reason people are just now hearing about it is because of streaming services like Netflix.

Basically if you don't like it ok cool, but using "over rated" to describe it, especially in the same sentence as "Seinfeld", which actually fits the description better, makes no sense.

Seinfeld is every bit as good as its reputation would indicate. It's in the All-Time Great pantheon with shows like The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, and Twin Peaks. AD is unfunny hipster bait.

What makes Seinfeld great in my opinion is the writing. It's tightly written, funny, realistic (besides seasons 8 & 9) yet odd situations coupled with each character's idiosyncrasies which is a recipe for laffs.

Another thing I like about Seinfeld which I rarely see mentioned is there is no pathos or heavy-handed messages. There is no drama, and there are no boring love storylines which I personally hate in comedy. It's just straight up comedy and funny dialogue.

I think that's what I most admire about Seinfeld. It was a show that could have great dark humor without going overboard or just putting it in there for the sake of pushing boundaries, something that I think a show like Always Sunny does sometimes.

no ones putting it on seinfelds level like that just because of longevity (and no way it could last that long), but its still a classic, every character was near perfect

writing

I use to be one of those " im too young for Seinfeld guys" until I wanted curb and then I watched Seinfeld with an open mind

you know what my first show that made me looks at tv shows different and started looking for clever jokes and great writing?

home movies.

You can listen to home movies and still enjoy it

You still don't understand my point.

"Seinfeld" is on the level of "Breaking Bad" and "Sopranos", but "AD" is the over rated show? Ok. :heh:

You dislike "AD". That's fine. But it's not even rated enough to be "over rated". It barely lasted 3 seasons and still, to this day, hardly anyone knows it exists.

"Seinfeld" on the other hand is the show that people that know nothing about comedy quote or call "the GOAT". I'm not saying that's you but it's safe as hell to say you like "Seinfeld". It's like saying you liked "The Avengers". People who have never read one comic in their life love that movie.

IMO "Seinfeld" was just the ground work for "Curb", which is superior in just about every way. :yeshrug:

Ad is very good but i feel like it wasnt goat status until it got cancelled after only three seasons...it was way ahead of its time...just look at modern family....

And Seinfeld is my fav sitcom of all time, i grew up with the show...broke boundries forsitcoms..Curb is funny, but he reuses many of the same jokes/situations we already seen. in a way, we 80's kids were wayyyyyyyy too spoiled with tv line up in the 80's/90's

AD was funny to me but a bit overrated. I've watched through all three seasons about 3 times, and enjoy it. I just don't get the hype of the people calling it the greatest sitcom of all time. I think some of the writing was clever but not necessarily funny if that makes sense.

AD's classic to me off strength of writing. the writing for a sitcom is absolutely genius and attentive to details. they got multi-layered jokes, and tons of self-referential jokes

I dont even think it can compared to seinfeld, just because seinfeld is way more accessible and less 'out there'. some of the plotline and characters in AD are basically absurd and over the top. up till the last few seasons seinfeld is relatively realistic.

dont want to speak for everyone cuz everyone has different taste, but most people who don't get AD enjoy a situational comedy with realistic undertones more than a 'clever' one where there's a lot of absurdity and exaggeration everywhere

I've watched about 9 episodes so far.....the best being the one called "Pier Pressure"

I'll admit, the show is indeed funny, but it's not "laugh out loud" funny if that makes sense.

It's much more cerebral comedy which often tends to result in enjoyment rather than loud bursts of laughter as compared to say CYE.

I can see why it was cancelled though. If you dont catch the previous eps, you're lost.

Also, likeCYE, you can't be playing with your phone or distracted when wathcing it b/c you'll miss funny stuff
