When I first read this magazine I instantly thought, "he's definitely the next Kobe."
He would definitely be a perfect fit for the Lakers, he can pass, shoot and rebound? Hes averaging 30ppg in HS and getting 8 boards and 8 assists!? Winning titles, damn how can we get this guy?
I was a freshman in HS, and I seen the next big superstar coming, and I was excited about it. I read about how dominant Lebron was at St Vincent St Marys, how he had "next."
I love sports, and I love iconic sports figures, so it was a no-brainer I'd become a distant fan, more of a respect-for-your-ability than a rooting-for-you-to-win-against-my-team vibe.
Here I was, hitting puberty myself and being witness to a kid, MY PEER, who looks to be deserving of getting the torch from Kobe.
And his first game he comes in and he's sizzling, he drops something like 25 6 and 9 on the Sacramento Kings, in a loss.
But you see it, its there, this kid got next.
That was the same year we beat steve francis and yao ming, tim duncan and co, and KGs wolves in the WCF to go on to get beat by the Pistons in the Finals.
And unfortunately, due to my teams success there came a new wave of fans after that first game, lebron fans.
Whom were really fans of other players that had just switched and bandwagoned (at that point it wasnt too big, it was sizeable, but not the army it is today)
eventually i had to draw a line.
I mean I was proud of the kid, he came in and balled tf out, and i honestly thought "hes going to live up to the hype, he can fulfill the expectations."
But once we lost to the pistons the lebron stans began chriping at the ears.
Then Shaq leaves as Lebron continues to put up HOF-caliber numbers, then the Lakers suck, the Cavs start making playoffs, and eventually the Cavs make the Finals.
This was the pinnacle of it all. The place where most of the hatred comes from. If you could see HOW BAD lebron fans were. And I know we let them hear it after the sweep, and admittedly thats where alot of respect comes from for San Antonio.
They swept him, came a ray allen shot from beating him again, and then got revenge and beat him again.
But man.

You idiots only got increasingly worst.
The level of disrespect for ONE of my many MANY franchise guys, was distasteful, uncalled for and outright disgusting.
When I was a Lebron fan, I was an even bigger Kobe fan.
I knew Kobe would pass the torch to him, I knew championships were destined and admittedly I hoped we somehow found a way to land him.
When I was a Lebron fan, I seen another piece to the Lakers dynasty, the next guy to have his jersey hung up in the rafters.
When I was a Lebron fan you could still buy a gallon of gas for a buck fifty, and Kobe was 3/3 in the Finals.
