When is the last time you've played a non current gen game?

And how much of an occurrence is this?

So many people constantly beg for Backwards compatibility and get super excited for these retro box systems but is playing these games really a big thing?

I have a NES mini that I've turned on maybe 5 times.

even with that said I play VC games and beat Metroid prime 2 on gamecube a few months ago

On a near daily basis, since I have a ton of games I never opened up as yet coupled with a ton of other games I play casually since my 360 along with other consoles (Ps2, Ps3, Dreamcast, N64 etc) hooked up to my telly.

I keep games I like and replay 'em, so the original fat Ps3's were a god send in that regards before they got hip and software locked it to support the lacking PSN store. Had to recently rebuy cables for the OG Xbox to play old faves like the Warriors and Splintercell too. Short of Battlefield 1 and GhostRecon CokepoliceSquad I ain't buying new current gen games like that short of getting a switch.
