There's plenty of reggae music both laden with obscenities AND drug dealing stories. There are even famous selling reggae artists with hit songs about such. You don't know shyt, cac. The guy you listed is an "old" reggae artist. Reggae doesn't look like that now. Stop trying to play black people against each other. Go listen to some country and shut up.
:stopitslime: So what does it look like?:comeon:

Why is it?

The comparison between the genres is terrible to begin with, reggae is more like soul music while dancehall is closer to hip hop so why compare the two at all? Secondly, your perception of Hip Hop isn't the end all be all. If you don't understand the reason for the strong language and themes then that's on you. I hope you don't watch the news or action movies, prolly scares you to death. The diaspora has always drawn influence from each others cultures since Africans were brought here. Anglophone ones like America and Jamaica are the ones we of course pay most attention to. As others have stated Bob was influenced by Curtis Mayfield, Pac(although you don't believe Hip Hop has any legends) listed Bob Marley as one of his influences. Notice the pattern. Funny thing is Bob was a rudeboy in those early days with the Wailers they was hemming up dj's to play their shyt when they refused or lied and didn't play the songs. By the time Bob became a ras he was a thug. So to make it seem as tho negative things can't find their way into something like music and art is nonsensical to me. Reggae provides positive spiritual vibes when you want to feel that way, but when shyt is real or when I'm motivated I'll listen to rap. It's no need to dismiss one for the other, to me both genres speak to the soul if you willing to get in tune.

Another thing relates to what I said in this thread earlier, discussions like these go nowhere except to divide when there's no reason at all to divide. shyt just reeks of "That's what the white man want you to do" type shyt. Black culture is beautiful no matter what part of the world its found, to me always comparing shyt is a bad habit that cacs gave us. This coulda been a thread celebrating ALL black music in the diaspora or even the world but instead it's this piece of shyt. I mean, I'm not gonna derail this black on black pissing match but ask yourself if you really need to kick dirt on Hip Hop in order to justify Reggae's greatness.

I never said Hip Hop sucks, just saying Reggae is better :manny: One of the reasons is the positivity of the songs which is miles ahead of current rap music.
And who's talking about Bob, he might be the most popular but isn't the best reggae artist, even Peter Tosh has more credibility than him...

The comparison doesn't make any sense though. Reggae is more like Soul and HipHop is more like Dancehall. Would you compare Soul to Dancehall?:stopitslime:

Well you said Rap never had any legends so are we talking about current or the genre historically? It's lots of Rap songs that don't feature "pathetic nikkas rappin bout scum shyt". So yeah, I don't know about you but from your first two posts it looks like you basically said Hip Hop sucks. You should be more clear if you mean today's rap which is Pop Hop rather than Hip Hop.

I was just bringing Bob up as an example of how both sides influenced each other. lol, why you mention Peter Tosh like it's impossible for him to be up there tho? Pete got jams. I'm a Burning Spear stan that shyt my meditation music.

That was a misunderstanding, i like hip hop too, but i don't think it has the impact it should comparing to reggae. Peter Tosh could be more influential that Bob but bob's ego always was bigger than him

bbreh hip hop on a global scale is way bigger than reggae. It basically redefined global pop culture

Ive seen the light brothers & sisters. The situation in Ferguson made me broaden my taste in music. Specifically to reggae music a, genre of which white folks will never have.
