i remember when the promo cds of this and "in da club" dropped on the same day (y'all IRC and ftp scene cats know what i'm talking about, i believe they were both wcr rips if i remember correctly.)

I fukked with "through the wire" more, even though it was the o.g. version with him really rapping through the wire and not the cleaned up, re-recorded version that the public heard. I remember playing them both in my ride on the way to a party and telling him that "through the wire" was gonna be the bigger song out of the two and that kanye was gonna be the bigger star. he and the other two people in my ride laughed at me and it was understable considering that 50 had all the buzz and kanye wasn't really anyone at the time other than the dude that the average person knew from spitting that tragically, horrible verse on jay's "the bounce."

In retrospect, I was 1 for 2 on those claims.

This became my favorite song the instant I heard it (first time hearing kanye..well later I found out he was the voice on guess who's back)
So I buy the album expecting him to have the "through the wire voice" on every song..we don't care comes on and I'm like:what: :wtf: :childplease::leostare::whoo::ohhh::ooh::steviej::krs::blessed::banderas::feedme:...by the end of that song i didnt even care about the voice anymore. college dropout stayed in my 5disc cd changer and discman whenever i went out

First track of his I heard was 'My Way', then this. Nearly everyone was calling him Kayne West. :heh:

Then the snippet of 'Slow Jamz' leaked and dudes were like :merchant::ohlawd::lawd:

I remember when I used to fight with the people that now say "I miss the old Kanye", dudes were saying that he was soft, not lyrical, worst rapper on the roc, never the beats though. :ahh:

I don't mean best debut I meant best debut video, artistically. Day and night is one of the best debut music videos period, not even just in rap.

Oh I see, my bad.
The video was dope but it was pretty evident that both he and Kanye straight jacked Justice (ironically after Kanye rushed up on Justice on stage and claimed that touch the sky was better than D.a.n.c.e.).

Correction he lost to We are you friends and later jacked the Dance video and won some awards.

I remember, there was a lot of wack shyt coming out, Kanye at that time was a breathe of fresh air and the original of this song was really dope. You add that on to All Falls Down and made me really want to check the album.
