I just took a wait and let's see approach

Because real fans of hip hop knows their are TWO MASE's

MURDA MASE the mixtape assassin of the Children of the Corn crew

And Shiney Suit smiley face MA$E courtesy of the PUFF DADDY machine

I personally liked MURDA MASE which is why I liked his transition to GUNIT

even though 50 couldn't close the deal

I was a toddler when Harlem World came out so I didn't get to witness his initial run , so this was my first introduction to Mase , I remember seeing that exact Rap City episode you posted in the OP they we're playing his previous hits so I got an understanding of who he was and what he was transitioning to , I also remember like a month and some change before this when Jim Jones blacked on him on Hot 97 that shyt had my young ass sides splittin lmao

His talent is underrated, but he had a very teenybopper-ish appeal. He had maybe a 5 year window for huge success, and he wasn't able to capitalize fully.
When people are saying "Welcome Back" didn't feel the same, it's because his original fans weren't teenagers anymore.
He sounds almost as good now, as he did 20 years ago. But he's 40, and his whole shtick was too "cute" to transition into a more mature artist.

I remember Ma$e at an award show (think it was MTV) with Diddy. They got on stage and Ma$e kept saying "welcome back, welcome back" like he was welcoming himself back :wtf: Diddy looked annoyed as fvck. Real embarrassing moment... at that point I knew he wasn't the same. Old Ma$e would never look like a doofus :mjcry:

i think he was trying to flip the sample on that song... cam used the night court theme.
so mase tried using the welcome bakk kotter theme to get buzz on the radio.
only ny heads know that tv show... because it was based in brooklyn.

flop (about the song and album title)
