When other races separate from their undesireables, they group with their middle and upper class counterparts; not us

This is kinda nonsense. They're saying that only Black folk believe in a common struggle, but are they gonna claim poor white folk have never allied with rich white folk politically? Aren't posters here always claiming that Asians as a whole group keep their money in the community?

And why is it that whenever we post about a great universal health care system or universal excellent education in another country, someone says, "They can only do that because they're racially homogeneous." But now y'all are telling me they supposed to separate themselves, so that excuse doesn't work anymore.

Not to be petty, but you’ve also posted conservative “bootstraps” rhetoric in this very thread. And said it with ya chest too :hubie:

:francis:
So we shouldn’t try to provide for ourselves? We should wait on the government to take care of us? Ok. I’ll quit my job, and hope someone rescues me. Is that that you call conservative rhetoric? Taking responsibility for your life, instead of blaming others?

Also the older I get the more I understand the need for the "talented tenth" that WeB Dubois believed in:yeshrug:. Call it c00ning if you want, but it's reality.

It's not c00ning. The Talented Tenth in which Dubois conceived wasn't supposed to be some group alienated from the rest of the black masses who only cared about their own interest. They were to be a group integrated into the black community who were to be instrumental in laying the foundations of all our institutions to be further built upon. People read the Souls of Black Folks and completely miss the point. His framework of the Talented Tenth was him actually holding a mirror up to the organizational structure at the time of Tuskegee Institute.

the fact that this has to be explained is embarrassing. Yes black criminal and overtly class is culturally different than the rest of black folks and we should make sure we separate at every chance we get.

The wealth gap in Black America cannot be simplified to such black and white terms as “provide for yourself or let the govt take care of you”. You know damn well it is far more nuanced than that.

I think you should just stop while you can breh, seriously :francis:

You’re right, but as an individual, you need to be the best you can be, and strive for better. My income isn’t going to close that gap, but it’s keeping a roof over my head, and I can provide for my family. I am not out stealing, or trying to get fast money.

I don’t think Jeff Bezos, Oprah, Robert Smith, Jay-Z or any other millionaire/billionaire would care. Only dumbasses still care about these distinctions. If you’re wealthy, you’re wealthy. Achieving wealth for your family name for generations has to start somewhere.
They wouldn't care....until they do care.

Wealthy people are petty as fukk. Get denied a country club membership or something like that where "class" >> wealth. Overall, I agree that the average person would prefer to have $100 billion and be new money versus having $15 million and being old money.....but I'm also guessing that the old money people enjoy certain perks and probably control A LOT MORE levers of power than we realize.

Do y'all just love to argue with somebody and call people c00ns any chance you get?

We gonna act like EVERY black person is worth building and keeping in touch with? :gucci:

You can be born and affliated with whomever, but at the end of the day what do you currrently have? Where are you at matters the most.

:francis: You dont understand the benefits of social capital.

Ive been a homemaker all of my adult life, no work history. I could get a high 5 fig- low 6 fig job within the week if i let it be known i was looking, light work. And im just a regular (cute, personable) girl who went to excellent schools and made associations. Now imagine if i was born in. You're not getting it.

No man is an island unto himself. People who are not use to the lifestyle think big money insulates you from social pressures. Social pressures increase with the money. The entire influence behind the book Our Kind of People by Lawrence Otis Graham was Reginald Lewis, who had just become a billionaire and the wealthiest black man in America, but was having a hard time penetrating the high social barriers between his children and the other wealthy black children that were living in Manhattan. He wanted his children to have other wealthy black kids that they could connect with but was having a hard time making inroads with them and their families. That's when LOG introduced him to the social circles and the affiliated social organizations of Manhattan's black upper class. And he implored LOG to write a book about it. He later had his wife and children inducted into Manhattan's Jack and Jill Chapter and later the NYC Links.
