Harden averaged 27/7/6
Curry averaged 24/8/4
Notice the statistical difference is damn near the same difference between Russ and Harden this year.
Some things to note. Curry led a team to a better record. But he had the better team by FAR. He had multiple all stars and Iggy who was still possibly the best bench player in the league. Harden didn't have Dwight, who was washed already tbh, for half the season. Beverly was gone for a bunch of games. He was running with Dmo and Tarik Black for a huge portion of the season as his front court and 40 year old Jet as his backcourt running mate. Harden still led the Rockets to a 56 win season with that trash roster.
This season, Westbrook has the better stats but has a lesser team. In my opinion not nearly the difference between the Warriors and Rockets 2 years ago, but still a weaker team none the less. But now the narrative has completely changed. Russ is carrying a bum squad so he should win MVP, even though statistically he's slightly better but less efficient, (again damn near the same differences statistically and efficiency wise between Steph and Harden in 2015) but didn't win nearly as much. As a Rockets stan you have to see why this is frustrating for us.
We finally accepted carrying a team doesn't matter, you have to win at a higher rate. Basically best player on best team. But now apparently it reverted. And honestly if Kawhi was going to win MVP i'd accept, it would at least be consistent with what happened in 2015, but Russ winning it? Makes no sense and really feels like the media still has an agenda against James Harden, which was disgustingly obvious last year, when they blamed him for all the struggles for the Rockets even though anyone with half a brain and an eye for basketball knew he was the least of the problems.
Anyway it's just crazy that Harden will lose the MVP for doing what Curry did to win it in 2015. Without dudes like Dray, Klay, and Iggy. I'm not even mad at Russ winning it, I completely see the argument to be clear. But Harden was fukken robbed in 2015. The media wanted to give it to the new golden boy Steph
. I think if the media did a revote they'd give it to Harden especially knowing that Curry would get it unanimously the year after.
