If they met at 135 I would've put my money on Sugar Shane. He was a beast at that weight

When Floyd fought Mosley people didn’t expect him to take him on. The universal opinion was that Floyd was scared. Even tho Floyd himself had been calling out Shane for years. Including Shane saying “my tooth hurts I gotta spend time with family” after his 2006 rematch with Fernando Vargas. Most of Floyd not fighting Shane at an earlier time was in Shane.
That wasn't the universal opinion.
The universal opinion was that Mosley was shot and only had a puncher's chance, atleast from those knowledgable of the sport.
The only reason he even got the fight was because of him upsetting Margo.
Shane was trending down after Winky and that was in 2004 or early 2005 if I remember correctly, and as you said he blatantly ducked Floyd, for Oscar's benefit, with the tooth ache bullshyt.

That said prime Shane had the style and the mentality and speed to cause Floyd major problems, but his issue , that Windky exploited was that he could be controlled by the jab and that's Floyd's bread and butter, but it would have been a much more competitive fight in both's prime. IMO

Just re-watched the fight a couple days ago

All I hear is "If Mosley was in his prime or if he stayed on him, he would have finished Floyd". Nothing more than wishful "what-if" banter from Mayweather antagonists.

Shane didn't exactly gas out until a couple rounds later. He was very fresh and spry in the early rounds. Add to the fact that Floyd had a solid chin, strong lower body, and balance unmatched by any other active fighter aside from Hopkins and Ward. Most other fighters would have gone down from that shot.
People who say that just don't understand boxing. It boggled my mind when I heard (and still do hear) people talking about it like Mosley could have easily finished Floyd if he wasn't old, or he just "lost focus" and magically took his foot off the gas. A lot of boxing fans only understand boxing in it's simplest terms, ie "guy punch guy, guy knock out guy, ect". Anybody who has any real understand of boxing knows that Floyd got hurt and instantly made the necessary adjustments.

1:22 -Seems like he's going to the body as a decoy, Floyd dressed down in defence.
1:16 So Shane loops a bomb over hand, Floyd knees buckle like a MF! Most would have fallen.

Floyd tries to grab, had no c strength to, so he backs to the ropes as Shane throws 2 rights that miss the mark. Then to the body.

This shot and the one earlier in the round shows/proves why Floyd has never been dropped. Just a standing 8 count when his glove scraped the canvas.

Floyd shook it off. IMO Shane's body language was "well...that was my best"

From what I recall which is a vivid account, Shane was unaware of how hurt his opponent was from the punch which is something that happens all the time in the sport. If Shane would have pressed Floyd more it would have went differently. Doesn't mean Floyd would have lost but it doesn't he wouldn't have either

ATL, but rasied in DMV
I messed around and missed Mayweather/Mosley, after going out of town to see this girl I was dating, but haven't spanked yet. She said she had cable, but it turned out she had some kind of hook up, that wouldn't allow me to order the fight. Or she didn't know the fight was going to be on PPV, or both. That didn't quite add up. But she paid me back, and let me spank her for the first time that night. Nothing like that has happened since this girl I was seeing years ago, made me miss my first Redskin/Cowboy game ever back in 1988. I spanked her for the first time that day too, right when the game would have been on. I must have really liked her, if I missed the game for her, while not being sure if I was going to spank it. I was still very young then too. That next time I was in a situation like that, was Holyfield vs Bowe 1 in 1992, although it seemed like more than only four years later. This girl was the finest of them all, but I chose the fight this time, plus I already had a girl friend. And I never got another shot. But that fight was on, as y'all know. I still wonder if she would have let me tap it. But after all I said, I think she would have, since it seems like that was a pattern...having to miss some major sporting event, or something on that level. But would it have been worth it. I guess I'll never know. But me and this chick was very compatible, in many ways more than me and my girlfriend. Some of you may have had these same experiences. Since me in my girlfriend broke up four or five years later, I do wonder sometimes if I should have went ahead and missed that Holyfield/Bowe fight, since there was eventually a Holyfield/Bowe two, and three. And now that I'm older, why would I want to watch two brothers trying to knock each other out, over spanking one of the finest redbones I ever spanked. But then again, it wasn't just the fight I was going to be missing, but it was a chance to be with all my siblings, and other friends. Now if I were going to be in a situation, where I was about to watch it alone, I may have chose her. But I do remember one thing, she wasn't making much money, and she didn't have no college, meanwhile my girlfriend just finished her BS, plus she had a job in her field, and was always buying me things, and she footed the bill just as many times as I did when we ate out. Plus that fine sister wasn't the type who was going to just disappear after you spanked her. So things probably would have gotten very messy.

Anyway, I missed that second round of Mayweather/Mosely live. But from what I remember from the rerun, that was the highlight of the fight. So in other words, tapping that girl for the first time that night was worth it in this case. I don't think I'll have to worry about making that kind of choice again anytime soon, since boxing is gone. It was practically gone when those two fought. That was one of the main reasons I wanted to see that fight. I knew it would be a long long time before I saw two brothers with big names like them two meet up again. And I haven't since. But like I said, I probably would have been disappointed. Although Mosley wasn't all the way in his prime, I think Floyd would have pulled it out anyway, but maybe with a tougher fight.

I think I was in Atlantic City for that one. Everyone lost their shyt after that happened, but yeah that was all Shane could do. Shane wasn't gassed... Floyd got hit hard once, and he focused up immediately.

Those same people call Manny's victory over him(which happened almost two years later) one of his best wins. :mjlol:
