When Slaughter returned in '90

Slaughter was getting a lot of heat during this time.I remember as a kid i hated his ass too.Slaughter said he was getting death threats from it's still real to me damnit people.And Vince wanted him to burn the american flag instead of Hulks shirt.Sarge was like .Perfect storyline for that time.

I wasn't a fan of that storyline, I thought it was lazy booking and cheap heat and the gulf war was already over before Hogan beat him for the title at WM7, and I've always believed the whole 'Slaughter getting death threats' shyt was and just used as an excuse (security reasons) to move WM7 from the LA Coliseum to the LA Sports Arena when the real reason for the move was because of slow ticket sales (WWF originally wanted the Colieum because it could hold 100,000 seats and they wanted to try to break Wrestlemania III's record). If the WWF really wanted to try to challenge WM3's record, they shoulda ran Hogan/Warrior II, IMO but instead Vince felt Warrior wasn't drawing and decided to the do the Iraqi shyt with Slaughter.

Slaughter's heel work was dope as hell at that time. He basically went from one extreme to the other, everybody hated that dude at the beginning of the storyline.

I remember reading an interview where he claims he had to wear bullet-proof vests in certain arenas. He probably did wear them, but whether they were really necessary is another question. Made for a good story though.

Yeah that's almost definitely true. The death threat thing was a convenient excuse but people in the know say that move had to do with slow ticket sales. The war ended a little too early for Vince's purposes.

I really wasn't aware of Slaughter's previous WWF history. I knew he was an AWA guy about the time he was doing work for G.I. Joe, but that was it. I was so mad he went heel, plus I couldn't understand how someone who looked so out of shape could give Warrior and Hogan a run for their money. I hated him, but didn't buy him as a main event guy.

That was everyone's issue. His heel work was great but he was never a main event guy, a lot of people never thought of him as a legit challenger for the belt or rival to Hogan.
