In real lion Prides the male fathers all children from all lionesses. If a new male takes over a pride, he will kill all cubs who were fathered by the previous male. This induces fertility in the females so he can create his own lineage. Now Lion King seemed to forego this unless scar is the other male leader of the pride (in real life him and mufasa would have ruled together) and thus the father of Nala.
