We didn't have social media back then, so you only heard black folks reactions to legit newsworthy events like the OJ trial or the rodney king beating.
So your answer is no reaction.

People didn’t care. It looked at as acting. Attitudes are different today.

It amazes me how people want to apply 2019 standards to shyt in the 90s. Like we supposed to disown Wesley and Martin for dressing up as women or disown Chris Rock for the Nikkas vs Black People jokes as if some comedian wasn't rehashing black stereotypes on Def Comedy Jam or Comic View every week. It was a different time and due to the positive images they had of black folks on tv (lWB, UPN, shows on Fox etc) it offset the negative shyt we saw.

People thought it was funny seeing men dressed in Drag back then. No one knew about the agenda at that time.

Above the fray.
OP,

Snipes was called out about it, just not on mainstream platforms. It was a pure sellout move, and the call in talk shows on Black radio, men's shows not teen or kid's show went in.
Snipes was one of the most masculine screen presences in hollywood since Fred Williamson, and he talked a good one in interviews......"black this, no compromise that, my muslim faith strengthens me."
He was on a good streak of successful films and making money after paying dues for years. We saw the drag queen shyt as hollywood emasculating a Black action star, and him willingly bowing to pressure.

They were on Oprah, and the cast and audience, as well as Oprah pretty much said he was the ugliest one. I don't remember any backlash about John Leguizamo, or Patrick Swayze. But now there is Rupaul's Drag Race, and Rupaul was in the movie, so it was just an actor doing a movie.
