They're still taking that different approach. Even if that's just a prototype its too different from what everyone else is doing and it poses the challenge that even if third parties would come back they have to make special effort for the hardware. That's something they won't do when the games just flop on Nintendo hardware anyway.

I don't get why they try so hard to be different. If they put out a conventional x86 console with a conventional controller at least third parties could in theory just port games over easily. Sometimes it's better to not try to be too different. We all saw what happened with the Wii U's unconventional controller. It was something they made to be different for the sake of being different and it became more of a hindrance to them. Even Nintendo struggled to come up with uses for the controller.

unfortunately it is true, you're better off waiting for their hardware to die and just pick up a handful of good games at discount prices than to get in at the highest price and wait for a trickle of 1st party titles and terrible versions of 3rd party games

that is unless this thing really is a handheld hybrid. then i can see real success for it

This isn't about Nintendo heads like us, its about this company becoming competitive again. And to do that, it needs COD, 2K, GTA, etc. It needs a platform thats third party friendly. And they need to ask for less in royalties.

I don't get this obsession with third party games for Nintendo. It's really mind boggling to me. Nintendo is in a different market and don't need madden, 2k or cod. They just need to have a steady release of first party games instead of far apart like the wii u. It seems like the 3ds got a lot of games so I don't know if they focused their resources on that and cut back on the wii u, but the new Zelda game looks promising and makes me believe they will get it right with the NX.

I always said that the wii u is what the wii should've been and NX is the console to take a big leap for them.
