I was just thinking about this earlier. To me, the public just got fascinated with a new sound, and through that sound we've been open to tons of new acts over the past few years, trying to find something that sticks and stand out - the cream of the crop.
To me the Future wave represents the pinnacle of Trap/Mainstream/Atlanta trap and DS2 is the possibly one of (if not the) best album that can come out with that sound. Same as some people have a definitive act or two that represents New Jack, Drill, Boom Bap, G-Funk, etc.
At a point, the public won't be able to listen to random trap acts and may only turn to the Future, Thug, Travis Scott level trap - while looking for a new sound entirely to develop interest in other acts. Maybe even mainstream r&b crossing over into that trap sound...but it starts to stretch it thin.
I say it slows up by Spring actually. But street hiphop will still reign supreme in whatever form.

That ain't gonna happen again, since black folk are scared of pushing anything innovative in this era. Remember when cats were listening to gangsta rap for 20 years and still wanting it to continue in the late 00s? Stagnation is very real.
