The problem with long reigns lately is that they start slacking off toward the end or put their eggs in 1 basket when it comes to challengers. With Becky's, it feels like they are waiting on Ronda. WWE likes to put her over as this revolutionary or this G.O.A.T talent. It wouldn't be out of their way to book Becky's reign badly on purpose to make you miss Ronda.

They could easily be booking Becky's reign way better, but they are going the lazy route on building challengers.
Book it better how? It doesn't matter how well you book a title reign nowadays because we live in a ADHD society. If Becky's reign had ended 6 months ago then there wouldn't be a problem.

Since the women's division is so small in contrast to the guys, make it so any woman can challenge the champion. Story-wise you can easily make a compelling long reign, but they don't want to.

In what world is Stone Cold arguably the GOAT?:usure:

Dude was "Stunning" Steve Austin for the majority of his career.

He got hot in '97 & by '98 was too injured to ever be full time ever again.

He's one of the greatest promos of all-time, no doubt, but you can't be GOAT off of a few years.

Hogan, Flair, Harley Race, The Rock, and even Jericho have more of a case for GOAT than Austin.

99 WWE was wild with the title changes.

Dec 98-Feb 99 it felt like Rock and Foley were swapping the title every week.

Vince had the belt for a week :mindblown:

Plus the tag titles changed every damn week nearly :mjlol:

Impossible to keep track of that shyt

I can damn near remember every champ from the 90-97 though.

Title defenses >>>> longevity

That's one thing where puro has always been ahead of American wrestling and why Kobashi's legendary reign or even something more recent as Okada's reign will be etched into history stronger than Brock holding the title hostage for 4 years and having 8 title matches.:skip:

No one remembers long shytty title reigns but no one remembers shytty transitional champs either.

Stone Cold having multiple vacant titles (storyline or injuries) within a short span not something to brag about.

In today's climate, we would actually be pissed if someone vacated the title four/five times in two years.

I don't mind transitional champions but I love long title reigns when it's done right.

For Becky, with over a year long title reign and few competitors they can do something different with the title now because it hasn’t been hot potatoed

They could have her turn arrogant heel (easier now since there are no fans to cheer her on)

they could have her “quit” after she beats everyone they throw at her, only to introduce a women’s secondary title

they could have her forfeit the title for some reason and then claim she never lost it

etc.

The issue isn’t generally long or short title runs, the issue is overall creativity and long term planning for the characters just kinda sucks. For Becky it’s been the same thing for a while (down to the match) where she talks shyt, dominates the first half of the match, loses the middle, wins heroically in the end, lays on the ropes exhausted as the winner. Her match with Lacey freaking Evans was the same pattern as Shayna :mjlol:

In terms of the storyline, a wrestler should be bragging about having a long reign and they should take pride in it. But whether the reign is short or long, it should be entertaining.

I have noticed that title reigns tend to be longer these days. I remember back in 2009/2010 when the titles were changing hands all the time. The WWE Championship was being rotated between the same people for months. Win the title at one PPV, lose it on RAW the next night, win it back at the next PPV, lose it at the PPV after that, title gets vacated because the guy who beat you got injured, win it back at the next PPV, and lose it that same night. :mjlol:

It’s not necessarily how long you do something, but what you do during that period, and you can’t at all take away what Austin did for the most profitable and mainstream era in wrestling. Give me Austin and Rock over those other 4 any day. As much as a fan I am of Jericho, he’s last on that list you just named.
