I think Rock voluntarily pitched those matches. Letting Hurricane Helms go over most likely wasn't something that management would have wanted but Rock always was trying to elevate midcarders.

WWE was legit trying to push Billy Gunn to the main event and it flopped big time. Even Rock couldn't help him.

WWE fukked over Billy Gunn by making his character a joke. Not unlike Reigns, Gunn could cut a serviceable promo if he kept it short and sweet, and the in-ring skills were there.

They just decided to market that nikka as "Mr. Ass" and have him be obsessed with showing off his own ass instead of keeping him as "Badd Ass" Billy Gunn. It didn't help that they put him as HHH's lackey right when H was starting to REALLY take off as a main-event caliber heel. He got lost in the shuffle.

Speaking of ruined, TEST CONSTANTLY GETTING FUKKED UP BY D-X killed his moment. I think for a time he got his nose broken every Raw for like, what, 4-6 straight weeks? For what he was able to do in the ring it's stunning that he didn't succeed more than he did.

I also can't co-sign anyone thinking that HHH beating Punk ruined his character. Punk went on to have an historic reign as WWE Champion directly following that and went on to beat the Shield in a match by himself. But, he probably shouldn't have lost to H.
