I hope they gave their spot to a couple who got dressed up in formal wear to crack a bottle of champagne on the hull of the ship, wave goodbye, and just go home. It would be a nice surprise for them to have that finally pay off.

They weren’t 20 minute late, maybe 20 minutes after they stopped boarding.
the ship leaving in the background tho. they probably tried to haggle for about 1hr and a half and that dude's mental health kept deteriorating. this is why ships offer that same day discount because of people like this. probably had a humble couple in a motel down the street that got in

Too much hassle to pull someout out of the system, unless they state explicitly that you'll forfiet your room due to missing the boarding process, at the very least. Chances are, they can contact them folks and get up with 'em at the first stop, all on their own expense, like they do if you get left at port when you head on out by yourself.
People getting left at port is as common as white rice, especially in places like Jamaica where certain silly folk waddle off the cruise curated trails, book their own taxis/walk about and get jammed up by bandits preying on the naive and the pleasure seeker (Weed, Rum, p*ssy etc...) Once you can present yourself to 'em when the ship stops. Met too many folk that missed, fell asleep, got robbed off the ship and had to book flights/boats to catch 'em later down the trail.

Heck, for all I know, some of 'em didn't make it back on some 'death by misadventure' shyt.

I've seen people get left at the port and then an hour later a speedboat come by with them and they're able to board them on the fly. Probably cost them a pretty penny for that service.

It is better to be too early, be annoyed with the process but at least know the wind down is coming at the day's end. Let the onboarders do their job and kick back with a beer, wine or cigar if that's your thing. Now they gotta go back home and pretty much be a walking embarrassment to each other the whole length of the cruise.
