When you think about how Biggie and Jay-Z have that gift of not writing rhymes it is amazing

I often wonder how long it would take Big to record a song.

Like would he start with just hearing the beat and then start mumbling lyrics to himself and maybe have like a verse and a hook done and then come back the next day and finish it or would he have 3 verses done and maybe no hook and then that's where maybe a sample from an old song that the produce sampled for his song came into fruition for a hook.

Same with Jay-Z. I wonder what the recording process is like. Like how long does it take to come up with lyrics for a whole songs.

That level of talent is amazing.

From everything I’ve heard and read, Biggie usually took a while, he would chill and have the best playing and cats wouldn’t even realise he was even listening. Then all of a sudden he would go in and record usually in one take. Or he would come back the next day.
Jay usually sits there mumbling, you can see him “writing” while the beat is on and then he goes in to record. Watch Fade To Black.

They don’t physically write it but they’re writing in their head and memorize the lines

Yeah, I don’t believe that for a second. Not the writing in the head and memorizing the shyt and to spit it in one take. No way. But all of that! That’s an awful lot especially with complex rhymes.

Big or Jay didn't write their rhymes; it's a known fact. I time stamped this vid but the whole thing is a good watch & listen. Tray Lee relays how the whole session went down

Some people just have a gift

I understand that and it could very well be true but two homies with the exact same gift? You don't find that to be a little far fetched? I understand that they are both great rappers and legend means everything for BIG but its a bytch of a stretch to me. I listen to Nas spit that last verse on the message and I know he write and even reads his rhymes but that shyt is so complete, you can read that shyt and still botch a word or two. Neither Jay or Big had flows a lyrically dense as that at that time. I'm just saying I have my reservations that either of them had that gift but I seriously doubt if they both did.

My Breh.

Out of ALL the 100s of rappers that came up, nobody mentions creating and reciting rhymes from memory, on the spot.

Many rappers mention how this is a gift.

But really it's more of a discipline.

If it just as simple as memorizing rhymes, all rappers would do it and say they can create songs on the spot without writing.

Don't you think?

It's not really a gift. Just cutting out a step. When you write your lyrics down you're still reading them until you memorize it. By the time you record your final take you usually have the lyrics memorized.

What big and jay do and many other artists is just recite the lyrics out loud or to themselves until they remember it well enough to record.
