We get on my nephews to wake up. My youngest nephew plays TE in 7th grade football, and was making NO effort in blocking, only woke up when it was a passing play.

We sittin five deep, all of us like :what: :mindblown: :snoop: :damn: :why:

After the game, I pulled him to side like "Look, you need to start ____ and ____ and ____ or you gonna get benched" :comeon:

You save that good effort shyt for pre-teen sports. When you 13, your effort can clearly be called out, or you setting yourself up for bad habits later on

Uncertain grounds
not a parent (yet) but i coach a sport

some kids (regardless of age) need the support when they make a mistake..a good portion of them are aware of the mistake/mistakes they made and yelling at them or criticizing them too much isnt really productive, while some are just overly sensitive...some need to be dealt with more harshly though..:birdman:

sandwich method is generally effective..supportive/good comment followed by critique and error correction followed by reinforcement/good comment

All the kids who i played little league with, who only got positive reinforcement from their parents, turned into straight bytchmade people in general who couldn't handle somebody not kissing their ass/being ok with them "trying their best"/ or straight up calling them out for shyt.

IMO...you can't learn how to handle criticism if you aren't exposed to it at a young age.

Brolic... Alcoholics
I will yell from the stands "coach, sit his ass DOWN:camby:"

:what:

I think the :camby: is what got me.

Real talk my lil cousin is nice on the court. He's in the 8th grade. Crazy athletic. Can jump out the gym. First step is :ohlawd: . But he lacks motivation and I think it's mainly becuz of how talented he is. I play one on one against him from time to time and beat him. But lately I've been telling him that there is no way in hell that I'm supposed to be winning anymore and that the only reason why I win is becuz I'm more active than he is.

I was at this one game, just casually checkin out the talent, and there was one black kid on the team. When the white kids made a mistake, the parents in the crowd were criticizing them. When the black kid made a mistake, the crowd didn't say anything cuz they were shook and thought it was my kid:heh: i looked and said "im not related to him:mjpls:" then, after every play he fukked up, they were like "COME ON! GET HIM OUTTA THERE:bryan:"

there is a fine line you gotta ride that will either break their spirit, or set a fire under them if you tell him the truth about himself.

stuff like this makes me wonder what Kobes pops did to him, so that he ended up as Kobe...and not Todd Marinovich

If your kid ain’t got potential for going pro (and trust you can tell at an early age), no reason to make their life miserable over a game. Granted, you want to teach them to work hard and try to be competitive (especially in a team sport where others are affected by your play), but if he’s trying and still sucks...give them a pat on the back and don’t destroy their confidence. Remember, your life will be in their hands some day. Probably a lot of parents staring at a wall in some retirement home right now because their kids resent them for ruining their childhood...
