Yea, but you don't think the fact that the NBA is 80+% black is a factor and a deterrent to seriously pursue past a high school level? I think that's a big reason why blacks aren't playing baseball like that anymore. What black guy would want to be the only black on a roster? I would feel totally out of place seeing nothing but white faces everywhere. Interacting and having to sorta assimilate into the culture of "others". You gotta remember that your teammates are the people that you're gonna be spending LOTS AND LOTS of time around especially at the pro level. Its human nature to wanna be around people that share your same skin color and background.

I think the same applies to white players also. Even at the college level depending on where they're playing, they are one of the only white players.

Yea they have hoops in their driveways and play for recreation but I don't think most white kids see the NBA as anything other than the "black sport". They gravitate ultimately towards the sports where they will be around people that look like themselves. Same with black players, they gravitate towards the sports where they will be around people that look like themselves.

Coordination is the biggest issue with most white kids. Basketball is the least forgiven sport when I comes to it. I was a great athlete for football and Baseball but not for Basketball. Wasn't coordinated enough

Guys like Adam Morrison who had the skill level but no the lateral quickness to succeed and cats like Joe Alexander who had all the hops in the world but lacked game is the reason while their are a lack of white players in the NBA. It's hard finding a white dude who has both of those criteria.

I'll reiterate.....there are a lot more CJ McCollum level athletes in the NBA than Andrew Wiggins.

The idea you need to be a freak athlete to make the NBA is false. Now you need freakish athleticism to be an all-time great like Jordan or Kobe. But to just make the NBA, elite skill level is more beneficial than elite athleticism.

Most NBA players are just good athletes who are tall. With height being the top gift not freakish athleticism. And most guys in the NBA make it cause they are skilled.

Every see those street ball dunk contests? They're usually better than the NBA dunk contest. That right there should show you athleticism is not the end all be all in basketball. Sure it helps but height and skill level are the top requirements.

And last I checked black people aren't the only ones born with folks who grow to be 6'6" or taller and being black doesn't make you genetically predisposed to superior basketball skill.

This is nothing more than an excuse for white people to try and explain black dominance in the NBA. The dominance of black folks in the NBA is more about WORK ETHIC in developing basketball skills like dribbling and shooting than simply being able to jump higher.

White kids in all white cities/states love basketball. Hence that part in the articles talking about cacs in Iowa making up whites in the NBA.

But in racial diverse cities there ain't many whites trying to play basketball.

I remember in my high school that was about 60/40 black to white, when basketball tryouts started at least 50% of brothas in the school tried out while maybe only a handful of whites tried out and one fukkin Indian (who actually made the team if you can believe it). The cacs at my high school stuck to sports like baseball, tennis, etc.

So I can definitely get behind the theory they view it as a black sport and aren't as interested in playing it. Especially in areas that are not almost all white like Iowa.

to be fair, in the same way black athletes get steered form certain sports or positions, white athletes do too

i think more white american boys/men would hoop more seriously if there wasn't someone telling them in 7th/8th/9th/10th grade that they'd be better doing X because they don't have the athleticism, etc. to keep up with "the black guys". same thing happens with white male sprinters. i was just reading an article during the olympics this summer about that. there is slightly more success with white female sprinters as opposed to white males. white male sprinters were told early to specialize in longer or other T&F events due to the black dominance in those events. it's not commonplace to do that to women. shyt, women's bball displays this too, you see waaaaay more white women in bball for the fact that they're not told to stop pursuing it.

Lance Stephenson: 33.0" and 3.38s
Evan Turner: 34.5" and 3.27s


The best athletes in the class were Terrico White and John Wall. Armon Johnson, Wesley Johnson, Trevor Booker, and Avery Bradley were also legit.

Luke Babbitt rolled in with a 37.5" vertical and 15 bench presses. (But only a 3.4s sprint.)
