Way I always understood it is if you are in the life, you don't talk. Period. Someone shoots you up, you don't run to the police, you take that and/or you hit someone close to them, if you can't get them. Someone steals from you, you don't report a fukking robbery. You take the loss, and/or handle it in the street. Thats the rules, and the same goes the other direction, if you steal money from someone in that life, or violate them, you or opening yourself up to those rules. The problem is the disconnect, as soon as someone gets their head cracked, or their girl beat up, then they want to run to the police. That said, if you are NOT in that, you follow 'cilvian' protocol.
Snitching is snitching. Most people would give you a pass for that tho
