It sucked. We were checking for it and when it leaked the whole internet got it immediately. The 0day release was everywhere.

AWFUL word of mouth rightfully because it was so fukkin bad. Restless aged like milk outside of like 3 songs but we knew immediately that man v machine was bootsie
The Nottz produced joint on Restless is super classic though

Technically, it started going wrong artistically on Restless.

But he had the machine behind him on that one.
So it worked out for him.
He started becoming a generic bytches & money type rapper with no content though. The Source review for Restless pointed that out too.

He went full 'commercial thug' on Man Vs Machine. He used to be an underground type of mad rapper.

And...this was the (post) Take Over/Ether era. Nobody was checking for Xzibit...at all!

I always felt Dr Dre dissed Rick Rick on his own track.

Rick Rock produced the track but you would think Dr Dre did it from the sound and but Dr Dre says…

“What out for fake kicks and bullsht that sounds identical”

And

“Check the credits who you thought it was”

I always wondered why Dre went at Rick Rock on his own track. :damn:

And he was used as a pawn in that awful JD vs Dr Dre / Timbaland feud. Maybe the most obviously fake beef ever.
What made you think it was fake?

Genuine question

JD had an article in The Source talking greasy bout how he feel underrated because people give Dre and Tim props he should be getting and they aren’t as good as people say they are.

That’s what made them come at him

You saying Dre and Tim spoke to JD behind the scenes and told him to say that?

No clue why JD would agree to that since he got flat out embarrassed in that beef and didn’t even have anyone to write him some fire to get back at them. Em Dre and Xzibit used him as a punching bag most of 2002.

Plus Em was coming off a Diamond album and Dre sold over 6 million with 2001 right before that so why would they need a fake beef with JD?

IT WAS A DOPE ALBUM, BUT HE JUST CAME OFF 3 STRAIGHT CLASSIX, SO OF COURSE IT WAS A BIT OF A LETDOWN IN COMPARISON

AND LIKE SOME1 ELSE SAID, THIS WAS AROUND THE TIME THE WEST COAST RESURGENCE STARTED FADING

How when the documentary was about to come out? . The single just didn't hit like the previous songs and being aftermath at that time , certain things were expected

Yeah artistically his first two albums were way better than Restless, but they didn’t make him a star.

Coming off Restless(which blew him up) This album for some strange reason felt "different" and it didn't bang out like Restless. It had its bangers like Symphony for a X, Multiply, Say My Name but for the most part it lacked something and he declined from there... What you guys think happened?
Dre wanted to sign X but his company at the time (Loud) said no bc their offer was too high. This may have out a dent on things when it came to the album. Restless felt like dre was the executive producer of it

Should’ve copied the Restleas formula

He had the machine behind him and fumbled the bag. Restless had solid production + features and he rapped his ass off like it was a debut album.

First since from Man vs Machine should’ve been something a banger out of the gate
