There's god-level with just wonder, as far as I'm concerned wonder has not been surpassed yet, then there's legends like otis, gaye, wilson, aretha. Who would mop the floor with today's generation for the exception of maybe miguel , imo ocean and weeknd is just too alternative to be compared to anyone else. They have their own separate lane.

I'd say he's up there with R. Kelly . R. Kelly is the undisputed king, but I feel like Raphael is the unsung contender for rnb king. He's like the nas of rnb of something. Definitely higher than Brown, Songz, Usher, Timberlake and Thicke. Maxwell and prime D'angelo may be the only ones I would put over Raph, but D'angelo been :flabbynsick:.

But this guy is on another level to some of them names you mentioned. They not worthy, hes on a whole different planet

For me Raphael saadiq is a bordering genius. The guy has it all and he is my number 1 guy in the game (not of all time). Dope singer, producer, plays multiple instruments and has serious material. He's responsible for a lot of artists dope shyt (d'angelo being one of them)

When I heard his track on boyz n the hood it was a wrap. No turning back.

Instant vintage is mind blowing, a classic. Has been bumped as much as anything I own.

And he still ever present in the game. He got Adrian marcel doing his thing, son is nice.

He murders his features with hip hop artists. That Devin the dude collab:ohlawd:

Hes up there with the likes of Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding etc. His contribution to RnB and Neo Soul in the 80's/90's puts him up there with the greats, R Kelly and Babyface are the only ones from his era matching him.

D'Angelo is his protege, can't put them on the same level. Both geniuses but its like comparing Mos Def and Krs One.

I have to somewhat agree with the OP. Of course there are a few others who are the cream of the crop as far as dudes in R&B go. D'Angelo (when he is on point), R Kelly, Maxwell, Bilal, Stokley Williams, Raheem Devaughn, even Robin Thicke (Stop sleeping on this dude), ect.

But Raphael is on a way different level than these other R&B cats.
Songwriting, instrumentation, producing, ect :mindblown:.
Tony Toni Tone albums still get burn in the Jeep, as well as Lucy Pearl.

And that voice! So dam versatile. His sh1t can make me feel so many different emotions just with that voice. He is honestly one of my favorites and extremely underrated

His greatest musical feats have been the brain child of others - don't get it twisted tho. Those songs wouldn't have been hits if he wasn't the dude performing them. But D'Angelo, Maxwell, and Saadiq are creators or composers in their own right. I think that edges him out of that group. Just my opinion.

I loved Instant Vintage. I just hate how his past few albums have had more of a 1950's feel.

He's a dope artist,
He has had his hands in,
New jack swing, r&b, neo-soul and soul music,
Sad,
He does not get the props for what he do and did.
