where does "Blazing Saddles'' rank in comedies?

What's funny 30-50 yrs ago might not be funny today

Things they may be referencing we might not fully understand

THAT'S ALMOST CERTAINLY THE CASE WITH THIS MOVIE, BROTHER! THE WHITEWASHING OF HISTORY THAT AMERICA HAS DONE WITH REGARDS TO RACISM WILL PROBABLY PREVENT A LOT OF YOUNG PEOPLE FROM UNDERSTANDING HOW OUTRAGEOUSLY FUNNY THIS MOVIE IS, DUDE! AND I'M SURE THAT MANY OF MEL BROOKS' BITS AND SIGHT GAGS HAVE BEEN COPIED TO DEATH OVER THE YEARS, MEAN GENE!

I really don't see how someone couldn't get it. Maybe a couple of references are dated but most of the jokes hold up. Especially since it was a western spoof, not a 70s based spoof. The only way I see someone not getting it is if they are unfamiliar with both the Wild West and also with the history of racism in America. It's definitely top 5 to me
