he was a great runner, but he was never the workhorse over the course of his career like the backs hes being compared to. that doesnt necessarily mean hes worse, but hes not going to have the volume of yardage season to season. having said that, not many backs have a 1695 yard 5.4 ypc season on their resume or lasted past 34 and have a 4.4 ypc career average. of the top 15 in rush yards in nfl history, only barry sanders and jim brown averaged more per carry. though at 4.4 he is currently tied with a few others.

And to think he did it with 2 rebuilt ACL''s too. Gore might have been one of the most talented backs ever before tearing up his knees and even if you don't consider him an all time great just the fact that he has played this long with this consistency speaks a lot for what kind of talent he has. Gotta give him props for that no matter where you rank him at.

How is that saying that Gore is better? :gucci:

You're comparing him to Martin as you're thinking they are both just "consistent" and on the same level for their respective generations (or time during the NFL). That is not even close to being true though, and that's what he was getting at.

How is that not true? Gore rushed for over 1000 yds for near 10 seasons in a 12 year career. None of the RB since he came in the league has done that.

In terms of both being consistent, you are not incorrect. However, I think portraying Martin as "consistent" undervlaues the type of player he was.:manny:.

I'm not phrasing it well, but Martin was a better HB for his time than Gore was for his. Gore was probably my favorite HB for a four or five year period though. Loved the way he ran.

This generation's Curtis Martin.

He carried the Niners offensively to two NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl (Probably would've won if they ran the ball at the 5 yd line).

Remember they did call a run, a qb option, that was wide open on the left side, but a false start put an end to that

Then went on to call back to back fade routes to Crabtree. :francis:

Martin to most NFL heads is remembered more for his consistency than anything. :yeshrug:

He never really had the peak of other great backs like Faulk and LT.
