YEA BUT HE WAS STILL SEEN AS A STAR PRIOR TO LEBRON
AFTER THAT, IT WAS ALL DOWNHILL
TO THINK, HE ALMOST DIDNT MAKE A ROSTER THIS YEAR.. NUTS!
Two revisionist statements.
Westbrook made his last All-Star team in 2020 with Houston. He couldn't make the All-Star team in the "weak East" in 2021, whose fault was that? I remember that year, it would be true that he was seen as an aging, fading star, but emphasis on "aging" and "fading", he wasn't thought of as a current star, in that year, to even make the All-Star team in the lesser conference.
His star power from his HOF career between 2010 and 2020 are what drove the coverage of him in that Wizards year. His play was not exceptional.
To the extent he got "hated" because of his experience with Bron, how is that any differeng than the "hate" he got for "running KD outta OKC"?
People actually ran that narrative, that if he was a better teammate, a better player, Durant woulda stayed, and when Durant won his rings, people used that as an impetus to mock Westbrook as not being a winning player, he'd retire ringless, etc.
Yall not telling the entire truth.
Did the Lakers experience hurt his perception, maybe a little, but not more than him bricking shots off the side of the backboard and the alleged dissension he caused in the locker room. Let's also note, that the Bron experience
was not the first time that it was alleged Westbrook didn't get along with a star teammate.
He almost didn't make a roster this year because he is no longer a plus player. And he's 37 years old. And he's in his 18th year. And he hasn't been really good on a good team in over a half-decade.
He was good last year in 6th man role for Denver, until he wasn't. He was good on the Clippers a few years back until he wasn't, they relied too heavily on him.
I'm a Westbrook fan, he can still be a positive contibutor to a good team as a 7th/8th man in rotation role. The problem is the good teams all have much younger guys they can give those minutes too, ain't no good team giving him more than 24 minutes/night anymore, and his play doesn't warrant that if you saw how he played down the stretch the last two years.
On a bad team like the Kings he can get the keys and ball to the best of his abilities, they fukking suck and can say that they got a HOFer to spen some time with them in his twilight.
He deserves to be on a roster, but like all of his other age peers, the end is nearing with him. He's not Chris Paul washed but he's also not at that level of Durant and Kawhi and Steph and Bron at this point, he can't give you that kinda production so you can't justify that investment if you're a real team unless he accepts a 7th or 8th man role (which he doesn't seem to wanna do, which is his right).
Nah I’m
No one HATED Russ until Bron. He was only Young Sabo. He’s been hated since is stint with the Lakers. Coincidence? Nah.
