Its reeally rough on parents when their son caters towards the in-laws/bride over them... ESPECIALLY when they didn't approve of the marriage in the first place. My homie's brother went through something similar. Not only did they not want him to marry her, but he completely balled out on this girl and her family while neglecting his own. It was bad... folks on some "You're one of them now" type steez. His parent's didnt even talk to him until after they divorced (for other reasons). But if they didn't split up, I don't think they would EVER let that go, the cut was that deep.

It's hard to criticize Kobe "looking out for his in-laws over his own parents" because we aren't apart of their personal lives. We know that his parents did not approve of him marrying Vanessa. I don't know if it's been documented but maybe Vanessa's parents welcomed him with open arms, I'm sure they've played a role in help raising his daughters. It's not cut & dry that he should have looked out for his parents over his in-laws because they probably deserve what he gave them.

This actually happens with a lot of us men. Its a fact that usually the family spends more time with and the kids are closer to the woman's family.

I have an older brother that's married, we got a great relationship but guess who's family they go see more mine or his wife's
And of course the only one who has the most problem with it is my mom at times but she keeps her mouth closed out of respect for my brothers marriage.

That's one of the positives of having a daughter. They tend to stay closer with the family and a lot of us men end up spending more time with wifey family then our own. Of course this is not always true but I've seen examples of it within my own family.
