I hate camel as much as the next man but where the fukk would Kanye be without Jay? Kanye has given his and dedicated multiple songs to Jay and his record label. Kanye owes to Jay as much as Jay owes to Kanye, FACT.

Jay-z retired as a strong goat candidate before people knew Kanye.
His hiphop career or legacy has not really changed since 2003, besides in pop music.

And I would assume that his marketing skills etc had a lot more to do with that than any producer.

Kanye wasn't very known in 2001 and 2002, Kanye was featured on The Bounce but did not even have his name on it.
Both he and Just were young in-house producers, only the deepest rap fans knew how they looked, only the deepest knew it was him in the Izzo video etc.

It's like saying everybody knows who Jake One is or Dj Khalil whose discographies are waaay stronger than Kanyes pre 2003.

Me and everyone I hang around knew kanye. I guess that don't equal everybody but I figured he was damn near a common name in hip hop circles by 2002. Not a household name or anything yet tho.
