Are there people that think he would be on another tier of star level if he signed with Def Jam, Interscope, universal or somewhere else?

Or did he reach a level he couldn't obtain without OVO?

Do you think he was held back by OVO?

You're right, He never made a project better than PND1

Artistically or just his career in general? I think things might have went a little better artistically, but he would still have had to do a lot of writing or change his style up.

Like Tory Lanez for example, that Cruel Intentions EP is the peak of his career, but if he still made music like that his career would be a lot worse off even tho the music is better.

Im talking about in his career.

People on this thread act like PnD would be rivaling the weeknd if OVO didnt hold him back

I was thinking maybe he could hit Weeknd trilogy levels of popularity at the most.

I always preferred him musically to the Weeknd.

He’s reached an in between level of those two... if that makes sense....

Chances of PND getting discovered, signed AND pushed heavily by a label or something is slim to none.

That treatment doesn’t really go to RnB artists, the few that DO get it (Frank, Weeknd) all has buzz and fanbases prior to the push.. Hell, part of Weeknd’s stimulus package WAS Drake

That being said, him being next to Drake and on his records, around the clique etc. gives him continuous cache. Fans of drake are checking for Party, and the shine he’s gotten has given him the shot to get more fans.

However, it’s easy to acknowledge now that Drake definitely takes some of his artists songs for himself, maybe doesn’t Big them up as much as some people would like, etc. So Party will always be relevant around Drake, but he will never be as big of a star as Frank or Weeknd are. But Really, how do we even know that he wants that? :yeshrug:

I don't see him going anywhere. He has a good sound, but it was influenced by Weeknd. The hard truth is that there are people who do a better version of what he does. He doesn't have a strong voice, and isn't known for his performance. Personally, I think he lucked out being a writer on OVO. He is getting huge checks, and as long as Drake keeps with the music it won't stop.

Not really. I think there's a difference between the right record and the right artist. What I mean is that not every hit record would be a hit record if the right artist didn't get it. PND doesn't really have the personality or "look" to sustain a career IMO. Sure some of his tracks would still be big, but without the Drake features I'm not sure Come And See Me becomes a smash hit. Same with the songs he wrote for Drake and other artists.

That's why tracks like this goes to...Drake, Rihanna, Beyonce, etc.

Part of PND stimulus package was coming after the weeknd and the name.

And this post is exactly how I feel. I think PND MAY have been bigger if rapper labels still ran like crews and family.

you have to take that 2013 Drake deal every time

he had just put The Weeknd on and had no one next to him that's a high percentage shot at stardom

the way it worked out he's as famous as a Tiller or Jeremih but doesn't do their numbers but who knows why that is, maybe he doesn't get the promo budgets they do

he did a lot to keep going but getting your first 10 to 50K fans given to you by a cosign is putting on by any definition
