or should I put my pride in my pocket and go buy weights from Wally World?

I didn't buy weights since you're looking at one pricey home gym if you buy in stores.

But I've read that if you can get used weights at under $1 per pound, you're doing well.

New weights typically go for $1.50 per pound or more.

Craigslist is a good place to look.
Also local garage sales.

But seriously, OP, going to a gym and asking if they'd be willing to sell some old weights isn't a bad idea.

Some gyms (maybe the YMCA?) do replace their plates from time to time.

Free weights are insanely expensive and its not like you'll just get like two 25lb dumbbells (lol). A full set (5lbs-100lbs) will run you a couple of grand and of course you'll want to get a bench, rack, jump ropes, kettleball. Unless you got cash like that, it will take some time to build a decent home gym if you have the space
