It's subjective to your age. I grew up in the Wu/Death Row era do everything by before that is old school to me.

Anything "modern" and "current" is new school, or "new culture." Everything before are just points along the spectrums of age and quality; from phased-out or dated to old school, to classic old school.

I personally think new school starts when producers like Timbaland , The Neptunes , Swizz Beatz , Mannie Fresh etc emerged on the scene , and started the No sampling wave that basically defined the new sound for hip hop
