Where's your go-to spot for car maintenance?

I wanna make sure my whip is in tip top. I know there's local shops everywhere but are they cheaper and/or better than the Pep Boys, Midas, and big names?

While I'm at it, I wanna get a sound system installed. Seems like I gotta buy my shyt from the business installing it despite finding better shyt online. I wanna buy some HID's too. Should I just go on Craigslist and get a Mexican to do all these things for cheap?

I got to Tires Plus because I have the credit card with them. If I end up paying a bunch for car maintenance and I put it on the Tires Plus card, I get six months interest free.

For the past 8 years or so, my go-to repair shop has been YouTube. I simply invested in a full, quality tool set, and ever since then I've done virtually any car repair that did not require my cars to be put on a lift.

And trust me, I am not a mechanic by any means, but with a little online research and a little youtubing and with the right tools, you can do almost any car repair yourself.

And when you do it, it's a great feeling of accomplishment.
Especially as you realize how much money you've saved yourself. It feels great to just fix your own sh!t or do your own maintenance without having to take your wallet to a mechanic or stealership.

If you're not mechanically inclined I always recommend finding an online forum dedicated to the kind of car you're driving. There will always be a thread asking for advice for service stations in your city (assuming you live in a medium/large city). That will never fail.

the dealership typically....if the repair and the cost doesn't sound right then i hit up my boy to get his opinion...he combined his computer science degree with certs in the automobile industry...and is caking hard..dude is an expert in all types of cars..so i run it by him..then he'll tell me if its worth it to either let the dealership handle it, try a regular car repair spot, or he does it if he has the time and i throw him some dough

i do very very very basic car maintenance myself..id rather feed the economy when it comes to that lol

Seriously though, you all don't realize how satisfying it is to work on your own vehicle. All you seriously need is youtube and online writeups by people who have done the same procedures. If you need to have every aspect of your vehicle laid out, buy a chilton manual too.

A nice big toolset is really all you need, maybe a jack if you plan on changing tires or you have a car and can't reach something under the hood/want to change out transmission fluid/oil.
