T-Mac was the best player on the team. He was supposed to shoot 24 times a game in the playoffs. Yao emerged and became more featured as Mac's body broke down in the following seasons.

Mac being the scorer he was while guarding and hindering Dirk is why the series went 7. Penny deferring to Yao doesn't get them past Dallas. Yao averaged 21 PPG anyway. Penny averaging 22 to feed Yao to 27 PPG doesn't change the series. The Mavs players 3-6th men outperformed the Rockets.

They don't get past the Mavs. I don't see Penny doing what Tracy did push the series where it went.

Penny would've averaged what he needed to...We've seen Penny explode for back-to-back 40-point playoff games as the #1 option versus a very good defensive Miami Heat team.....We saw a past-his-prime Penny match Kobe's output during the 2000 playoffs series versus the Lakers....Yeah, LA beat Phoenix in 5 games, but Penny held his own.

And what exactly would he have needed? Mac averaged 31 on 46/37% splits. He also held Dirk to 21 on 36/29%. Penny isn't doing that.

Penny lost the same Heat series you're bringing up.

Penny was the better playoff performer.....JMO........Dirk imo slowed himself down....He had a history of coming up short until he won the chip in 2011.

He wasn't. Your opinion isn't fact...there's nothing pointing to Mac folding while Penny rose above.

Dirk did not slow himself down. Mac slowed him down. Dallas overall rotation was better. You're believing in the nostalgia of Penny more than what each player actually brought to the table.

Penny

He should have been first anyway or at least same time as Shaq. They clout chased to put Shaq in first cuz he’s the more decorated of the two, but Penny was as important to the franchise as Shaq was back then and stayed longer in a Magic jersey.

I'm a big McGrady fan, dude was easily the better player.

Penny made the brand what it was though, possibly more than Shaq.

Penny. He's the 90s Derrick Rose. Only difference is Rose got MVP while Penny went to the Finals. Just as Chicago would be silly to not retire his jersey, Orlando would be silly to not retire Penny's.

One thing I like about Penny is that there was no falloff from the regular season to the postseason....He was a career 46/32 shooter....In the playoffs, he shot 45/38 in 64 gms........Had he stayed healthy he was a 100& guaranteed hof.
