I still can't believe how badly he dropped the ball on that You Gon Get This Work song. The way EVERYBODY was saying that shyt, it really should have gone viral. I'm thinking, the way everybody was spitting their own Control verse. Industry and battle rappers shoulda been jumping on to spit their own you gon get this work verses.

What I don't get about these battle rappers is why they don't just dumb their shyt down and make dance music to get on first. Save your real lyrics for later.

Yeah, they don't wanna "sell out" but please prove that you can "sell out" first. Drop a mixtape of all radio-ready club joints, with retarded but catchy hooks instructing specifically how you want women to shake their azzes.

My only problem with the dumbing down shyt is that some of them have done it and sounds so generic. Some of them rap like they're lyrical miracle spiritual geniuses and when they make music, it sounds like some knock off industry club shyt. Math knows what he's doin. Lux as well. Illmac knows his lane. A good portion of em frustrate me. I am a fan of Calicoe but he'll make a song like he is Nas, Jr. but switch up and sound like he is recreating Master P's "Ghetto D".

Generic is the perfect word, lol. I'm a fan of battle rappers so I do want them to do well. But they just cannot write hooks. Yes your 16s are fire, but what about the hooks?

If all URL rappers were given the In Love with the Coco beat, could they have made a hit song? Think of how ridic OT Genasis lyrics are, lol. If a battle rapper filled that shyt with metaphors and comparisons..... uh..... lol.

Battle rappers do this all the time. This is actually the worst approach a battle rapper could take. That approach is why so many are unable to convert their battle rap fans into fans of their music.

The shyt doesn't make any sense. What's the point of building up a fanbase & not giving them the type of shyt they want to hear? The majority of battle rap fans turned to battle rap searching for something that lacks in todays hiphop music.

The best approach is that 90s shyt. You get the streets (illmatic, reasonable doubt, ready to die) & then gradually get commercial over time.

Surf takes the best approach, which is why he's the most successful so far. The surf you see on that stage is the same surf in his music. Surf just isn't my cup of tea. He does nothing for me as a rapper/artist, but he clearly makes the best music.

Surf is no means my fav battle rapper and he has taken more than a few L's, imo. But his music is really that good.

I have to thrown Goodz in there. He got some fire. Also not mentioned, Swave Sevah, Big Kannon, Fresco, J-Pro, and Big T.

Surf, Lux, Verb, Illmac & Bigg K make the best music IMO. Illmac is probably my fav out of the 5 (musically) 'cause his music could easily mix in with a Dirty Science album.
