Sony vs ms because it was also the first time in a while that an American company took a stab at a market being dominated by the japanese. Microsoft genuinely tried with the Xbox and 360 but with the xb1 it was clear that the suits started to get more involved and saw it purely as a thing to create shareholder value. The greed and lack of respect for the art form ultimately led to where we are now.
This is why brand loyalty and fan behavior is ultimately a waste of time. All those mfs saying awful shyt to people online, all those essays typed on message boards talking about the superior machine all of that is ultimately meaningless.

It wasn't just that it was cheaper. They pushed forced piracy checks and banned used games along with mandatory Kinect connection as an always on camera. And if you couldn't afford it or didn't have good online "we have the perfect product for you....Xbox 360"
That's why they lost. If it were $100 more but they had the same effort as mid gen 360 with the moneyhats of shyt people wanted and none of the other shyt, they would've been fine.
Honestly, Sony probably would've been fine with the PS3's launch price if they didn't get memed before memes were a thing with Sony haz no games and online wasn't years behind XBL. They still sold out and and people got shot for PS3s lol. It was THE first symbol of status that was electronic I can remember since it was before the first few iPhones
I was the only person in my friend group as a kid with a Sega. So that one just hit different. By the time the Sony v XBOX shyt kicked off I was in college. My dorm floor was like 70/30 Sony. My off campus houses with roommates was 50/50

Nah once it was announced that the PS4 was 400 the world stopped. Everyone was shocked it was that cheap. Whatever bullshyt Xbox was on didn't matter at that point. You're talking about the hardcore gamers but the general consumers forgot all that once that PS4 price tag dropped.
