This is a terrible suggestion, without comparing any specifics such as "features" anyone will tell you most (pretty much all) apple laptops have superb durability & the life expectancy will last waaaaaaaaay longer than any shytty HP laptop.

Buy you an MacBook Pro with OS X and you will never again ask what laptop or operating system should I buy.
Maybe the 2012 models but if things like upgradablitiy for the future is something that one is looking for than maybe the newer Macs are out of the question. The Envy and Elitebook series from HP is as high rated as it gets in the laptop catagory without buying a custom made one. Plus Apple and HP pretty much get their parts from the same manufactures so maybe the casing is different but the internals will be similar. I have a Mac myself, it's great but it's not the end all for sure. You put these things on a desk with an SSD drive, 8 GB of ram, and a Core i5/i7 and the difference is really gonna just come down to which OS you like the most.
