Who are you/GMs choosing in #1 in an all-time NBA draft in some hypothetical universe?

Assumptions are:

- each team has zero roster build out (ie no "team with first pick only needs a PG, so..."), no players on a roster...they'd be drafting from the hypothetical pool of every player ever until they build out a 12 man roster.

- each player drafted is in his respected prime, with their peak repitoire of abilities (ie doesn't have to be reduced to 91 MJ with less of a turnaround/post-game...the verion would be MJ at athletic prime, with the tools he added later in his career)

- All accomplishments, achievements, awards, records, etc. are known. GMs have the fortune of hindsight, knowing what every player in the draft pool has done in their career. But a players previous achievements does not mean they'll replicate that again in this hypothetical situation. The previous achievements would be akin to looking at what a player has done in college, europe, HS, etc.

- all players go through the combine process

- Coach/staff is whoever you want

- Once this made up league tips-off, the era of play and officiating will be the current era

IMHO, GMs are so obsessed with size, and measurables...and although the era of a dominant big man has changed, they'd still want to start the draft with size...

Player with the craziest combine stats would be...

Wilt Chamberlain
Olympic high jump, crazy athletic ability, height, length :dame:, insane stats from previous play, can stretch outside and hit jumpers, play defense, etc.

Other than Wilt, I'm thinking Kareem or Hakeem would be #1 (or maybe 1,2,3), and possible Durant (size, shooting, guard like abilities)

Not trying to make any statement with who listed (or didn't) list in the poll...feel free to use "Other"

(this isn't some agenda thread to argue about who is or isn't the GOAT...being taken #1 in a hypothetical draft doesn't necessarily mean you're the GOAT)

Jordan should be excluded from this discussion if we’re being honest

I included him since GMs still make a lot of decisions based on potential...IMO they could see Wilt, due to size, having potentially a higher ceiling than MJ...but if the shyt is thrown all the way off b/c of MJ in the poll, I can change it later.

It's probably either Jordan or LeBron

You can make an argument for one of the elite centers also, but with these two you get ELITE wing defense along with ELITE scoring process and with Bron you get ELITE playmaking ability, along with ELITE clutchness from both

BS. If I could have prime Shaq where he isn’t lazy/injured then….
People's memory of Shaq is somehow so clouded. He was still dominant af on that '05 Heat team and should've won MVP during one of those Nash years. I remember Dumars/Detroit loading up on all kinds of "Shaq Stoppers" in '04-'06

There was a time where the entire NBA was affected by Shaq.
