There’s honestly better options than MJ, if we’re talking a starting point. To me, the literal foundation of your franchise would have to be someone who affects the game well in as many ways as possible

I could get lucky and also get the pieces needed to optimize that foundation to their best ability. In that case, MJ is a top tier option. If not, I just need to at least feel like the piece I got can hold it down until we get right

Wilt, Magic, LeBron, Kareem, I feel like those are all names you just throw out there in that situation. Steph and Jokic exist in this weird in-between where they’re arguably the most unselfish players you’ll find in their positional placement, they work for literally every team construction, and they have math changing skills. But there’s one thing or another that keeps me from putting them on the tier 1 concretely

People's memory of Shaq is somehow so clouded. He was still dominant af on that '05 Heat team and should've won MVP during one of those Nash years. I remember Dumars/Detroit loading up on all kinds of "Shaq Stoppers" in '04-'06

There was a time where the entire NBA was affected by Shaq.

Your memory is cloudy Shaq was nice that first year in Miami But was no longer the best big man man in the league nor was he the best player on his team. The year when they won the title shaq missed a lot of time due to injuries and we wade clearly the superstar on the team. Miami shaq is a tier or 2 below La and Orlando shaq

That would be Michael Jordan. The most makertable player ever. Even if his supporting cast sucked them games would still be must see.

I'm going Peak Bron.

Playmaker/distributor
Strong defender
Scorer
Locker room leadership
Plays 1-4 no problem

Wilt is another strong first pick especially if you have a playbook that makes him a point center. His athleticism would allow you do double down on other areas as you build your franchise.

I would pick Kareem. At least I know Prime Kareem can/will play 20 years and he's easy to build around.

Wilt is too selfish

Lebron is too hard to build around

MJ is fine, but he's a guard. And a super elite Big should always be taken before a super elite guard.

Isn’t this just another way of asking who the top 10 best players of all time are :dahell:

No lol you’re selecting who you’d choose #1. Nothing to do with a personal top ten.

Kobe is my second favorite player ever, but I’m not drafting him #1 overall or #2
