Not at all. I think that's one of the reasons it works so well. The sample is so smooth and almost peaceful but then with the hard ass drums and threats over it? It's crazy. fukk it, not trying to derail the thread but the song deserves to be posted since it's arguably the best "soul beat" of the year.

This dilla beat is the reason i made this thread!! Dilla took Kanye's format and made it better than mr. west could do with donuts. I still think dillas just short of Rza but gawddddamn Donuts is a masterpiece

Right dilla uses his samples and singers voices as instruments in a song along with whatever drumbeat and baseline he's working with or sample, and it's all perfectly timed in a way you can't predict. It's just amazing I don't know how he comes up with it but it seems simple listening to it.

Anyways, that's one of my favorite dilla joints like all of donunts especially "waves" too but This is the original song that came to mind when I saw the thread, but I couldnt remember the title.
