For me, I listened to a lot of Nas, OutKast, Biggie, Pac, Jay, Rakim, Eminem, Scarface, and Common. Listening to them didn't really make me better because I was too caught up in the music to really "study" their technique. Rakim is probably the only one on the list that I took something from technically and that had to do with how he structured his rhymes.

Writing and reciting poetry is what really helped me. It helped me to find my voice and develop my own flow and delivery.

Big L is regarded as technically the greatest lyricist of all time breh. ..you cant loose listening to him

I grew up as a Kool G Rap fan as well...also known as one of the greatest lyricists

Emcee or the art of MCin...check out KRS One first 3 albums or Public Enemy

Style...Slick Rick...greatest storyteller

So many bro it depends on where you are going with your craft.

to answer your question it was Mase, this was before ohhla and shyt i would get his rhymes by pausing then rewinding the cd till i had his whole verse. obviously later on it was the greats like nas and dem but originally it was Mase, Mase style is just so smooth and hard to fukk with.

Only a gay nikka would do some shyt like that. I can see people getting influenced subconsciously by listening to their favorite artist, but to study a nikkas whole style is wild mango.

For example, I make beats. When I first started out I was making a lot of sped up soul sample beats. Tha's because I like Kanye's style and was subconsciously influenced by his beats. But I didn't sit down and study his music to try and learn to make beats like him.

you're a retarded phaggot mane

writers study other writers' style all the time to get better, it's like training

Back when I used to rap as a teen, I studied;
Elzhi - Witness My Growth
Little Brother - The Listening/Chitlin Circuit/Minstrel Show
Foreign Exchange - Connected
Common - Be

To me, these albums were the perfect motivation to just write as well as I can.

I'm a 93 baby though so I had Comeback Season, So Far Gone, The Warm Up and Attention Deficit to keep me current.

No that I've written down my influences, no wonder I love introspective rap so much :ehh:
