@Booker T Garvey in terms of those 10 techniques what do you think about these singers:

Tevin Campbell

Jackie Wilson

Sam Cooke

I think Tevin Campbell and Jackie wilson are about the same but they stayed in that tenor lane

Sam cooke is legendary absolutely, but his voice is classic raw gospel which i love, but we're talking about masters here.

This is why I listed will downing - he doesn't have the HITS like other artists, but vocally, he is a master.

His voice goes from tenor, baritone, and bass within a matter of seconds, most singers just stay in one range their entire careers, he just bounces in and out - here is an example (time stamped)

One of the great vocalists of the 90's, top 5 easily but stayed in his vocal lane and still very raw in terms of vocally - if this were a discussion on SOUL that would be different.

he showed out on this one too BTW:

Who would you say are the top 10 vocalists if you have Whitney at number 1? Who fills the 2-10 spots?

:mjlol: I know you're in character, but beyonce can't even speak clearly, let alone sing with perfect diction.

..its common knowledge that beyonce’s technical prowess is almost perfect... her training and acuity is crazy.. shyt like ‘messi di voce’ and ‘sforzando’ which are incredibly difficult vocal feats that you don’t really found in popular music.. she pops them in and out of her songs live.. Whitney was the only one to have dynamic control on that level.. Beyonce’s resonance in the soprano tessitura is impressive as well despite that she isn’t a true soprano like (aretha, whit, mariah, patti) ..shes a mezzo yet she be singing F5s like nothing.. beyonce has all of the techniques in the OP mastered..
her timbre(tone) is kind of bland compared to the greats but her has always been her strong suit..
..credit where it’s due breh

when Whitney was young and her mother was training her to become a singer how many hours a day do you think Whitney practiced and worked on her craft? Also, for Beyonce as well.

the problem with vocal threads like these is that most of u aren’t versed enough in pedagogy to even recognize if singers have technical traits like the one in the OP. Head voice and falsetto probably sounds the same to your ears.. same way you probably won’t be able to discern true diaphragmatic support that produces resonance and someone just singing loudly... or stacatto vs legato.
its better to ask things like who has a better ‘tone’ or has more ‘soul’ qualities that are just a matter of preference ..vocal technique is a different beast and many of the ppl being mentioned here only have one or two of those characteristics..
Great thread OP.. and fellow musicians/vocalists here?

on topic (in no particular order)

Queen Price (opera singer)
Jackie Wilson (bel canto training made him beast)
Ella Fitzgerald
aretha
whit
mariah
lisa fischer
Rachelle
wanye
Lala Hathaway
Beyonce

Whitney listened to a lot of Barbra Streisand (who’s also a technical marvel) and her mom probably was a background vocalist in her day, so she probably trained whit to project properly and things like placement.. keeping her larynx neutral how to control air flow for dynamics etc
Beyonce was classically trained and worked rigorously to perfect her instrument.. which is why her pitch is so acute too

What are your thoughts on Frank Sinatra's technique as a vocalist? He is one of my favorite singers.
