You weren't paying attention then. I've seen enough crime shows to know that it does work. The trick is to kill in a way that the death is not ruled a murder. That's how most of them not only get away with it, but go on to do it again. Imagine how many have killed just one spouse.

Imagine not believing in yourself to the point where you dont think you are capable of making 250,000 dollars on your own so you feel you have to kill someone who has it already in order for you to get it. Some of these people are losers because they admit they are losers through their actions which hints to their line of thinking. You already know that dude was a fukking bum and he was probably abusing her too. RIP to the victim.
