nobody is saying rap is the main reason
its about how black people view themselves
at some point all of us have to make a decision on wether or not we buy into whats considered "black"
look at black kids that grow up in good homes...they are still pulled into the direction of being "hood"
I dont see how anyone can see constant negative stereotypes sold to the world and think it has no affect on the psyche of people
the white people that get lost in the sauce generally straighten up as they get closer to their 30s
its something my father told me when I was younger...
...I didnt understand what he was talking about until I got to the other side of 30 and looked back
its about how black people view themselves...
...you cant deny we have a narrow outlook on life, how we should behave and what were capable of
BIG FACTS i remember when i moved from the hood to the burbs and the amount of Black kids who came from good homes im talking 2 story houses, two parent homes etc.
That got caught up in the street lifestyle was ridiculous, they rather be gang members, drug dealers, ratchets etc and every single one of them listened to degenerate ass hip hop and felt like that image was what they wanted to imitate.
Not the hardworking educated life their parents lived.
And another crazy thing was the amount of respect i got being from a certain hood with a certain gang element that the city i was living in was known for that alot of them for whatever reason wished they were from.
