I have both of these and I need a reflector vest at night. The shoes are comfortable as hell and they are great casual friday shoes. Khaki's, button up or polo and either one of these shoes and I can stroll into work easy or a decent restaurant.

When I was growing up in NC, a good number of blacks wore a particular style of New Balance. Think it was the 574s posted above.

I've been wearing them for years, and I'm not a runner. Currently have the 1123s.

These are great running shoes. I was tempted to buy a pair because of the last race I had I got smoked by a couple of guys wearing them.

A running shoe and cross trainer aint the same thing. I dont know if new balance actually makes cross trainers... but NB is def a good for running.

Not all are cheap. If I had to make an educated guess as to why they purchase them, I think its for the versatility (running/walking/casual,) they are wider than most shoe brands; and, most importantly they are made in America.

I strictly wear New Balance for sneakers now except for basketball shoes. While New Balance does make shoes in America, most of them are still made in China. Buy an American made pair though, the quality and comfort will be excellent. I wear a pair of 996s right now and these are my favorite shoes of all time
