True story, my mother is an OG Sounds of Blackness member so she recorded that track. Personally I have no issue with white folks singing that, but do it with the acknowledgment of what it is. That track literally starts with singing about our people being chained. They best acknowledge its an inspirational song meant for black folks struggling in a society meant to destroy us.

Oh and I sent this to her and this was her response lol

‘It is plain boiled potatoes and cabbage.’
It literally starts off with “the blackness, the blackness”

Someone in the comment section on YouTube said Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis claimed this is the best song they ever produced out of all the classic hits they spurned out. :wow:

I have to be objective, they didn't sound nearly as bad as I expected.

And I feel mixed. Yes its white people. But its an incredible song and a classic. In the words of the great Mills Lane on Celebrity Deathmatch, I'll allow it.

That is dope. I love The Sounds of Blackness. They don't make music like that anymore.

there's definitely a whole hustle with black choir directors teaching black gospel music to white people. I seen a video of a black dude teaching a white choir to sing that Kirk Franklin song "The reason why i sing". :beli: Even as an atheist i think black gospel music should remain 100% black.
Yep. its a whole "yall look at this :lolbron:" shyt people do :beli:

I always looked at it like music sets the climate for society.

It does. For black folks, its always spiritual. That why I don't understand why a lot of black folks HATE when you put something positive to the air in music, because they would have to denounce 30+ years of conditioned negativity in popular music.
