The REAL reason is that "whiteness" isn't based on any shared commonality within that group. Whiteness initially excluded Irish (which is as white as you can get damn near), Italians/Greeks (basically the founders of white civilization) etc.

Whiteness changes and expands so that it can remain in opposition to Blackness. No one cares if you have Greek American History month or Norwegian American History month. Those are actual cultures.
