Skin bleaching is a huge epidemic problem for a lot of African women (especially Nigerian). The worst part of it all isn't the health problems that come from these bleaching creams like skin cancer and gangrene. It's the belief that those health risks are worth it if they can have light skin.

I wonder if most dark skin women could lighten their skin tone would they? Im afraid that the majority would. I blame this on the one drop rule and including light skin people in our race . It creates self hate and comparing yourself to someone who you think is apart of your race, but really they are different.

That's true BUT there are full blood light skinned black people. I'm African/Zimbabwean. Black people can have a light peaches and cream colour to a very dark brown that looks black.

But yes we have full black women wanting to be like or comparing themselves to someone who is biracial or has mixed ancestry.

When I had my first kid I was told, I should thank god she is light skinned, or was she truly mine, or how beautiful she was coz of her complexion... Im dark skinned, their father is lighter than me but not by much. These ignorant comments came from educated dark and light skinned people who I didnt think thought that way. When my second was born i was also told i was luck i had managed to have two "cute" kids... My girls aren't even that light skinned they are brown.

So yes i agree that if there was a safe way for some black people bleach they would.

Most of the lotions and skin creams you see in Asian countries (South East Asia especially) have whitening in them. All their commercials have ghostly looking Asians with cgi to make em look whiter,but SE Asians are usually bronze skinned.

They have self hatred too, and they weren't even dominated and taken advantage of like Africans were/are.
