I'm sure @cook @Brooklynzson are always looking at how social media & online writing intersect, but the fact that we do everything on this site that the writer was looking for from a "black" site is crazy. Not to mention the potential breeding ground for writers this site is teeming with. We need to figure out ways to take this site to the next level especially if folks like ESPN are desperate to spend money to build it themselves
I felt that way when creating Talking Point Free Sports. Some of our articles made Deadspin and Yahoo sports. The talent is there without question. It's all about making it happen.

Whitlock has his moments. He didn't deserve this hackjob. I agree with what he says here and will debate anyone about it:

"Dude, it’s in the air. Black people are tired of letting idiots define who we are. It’s dangerous. I grew up loving hip hop music. But the [bleep] is way out of hand now. Flavor Flav went from fighting the power with Chuck D to a minstrel show on VH1. You have all of these young rap idiots putting out negative images about black men and black women, and it’s on us to stop it and say enough is a enough. It’s not on white people. And it’s not on old black people like Cosby and Oprah. We have to police our own. W.E.B. Dubois talked about the talented 10 percent leading the black masses. We’re letting the Ignorant 5 lead us straight to hell. The Ignorant 5 are telling white folks, “Yeah, this is how we really is. Let me bojangle for ya, boss. You say step and I’ll show ya I can fetch.” And whats even more dangerous, the Ignorant 5 are telling black kids, Its cool to be locked up. It makes a man out of you. And dont embrace education. Dealing dope and playing basketball are better career choices. The Ignorant 5 is the new KKK and twice as deadly. Thats why you dont hear bout the KKK anymore. The Klan is just sitting back letting 50 Cent and all the other bojanglers do all the heavy lifting."

Im not going to reiterate what i said on the first page. But if you agree with this than you nothing but a sucka. Well maybe not a sucka but an idiot devoid of any ability to logically analyze shyt and detect fallacies because this shyt here is full of them.

Reactions:

I. This was fantastic

II. There's another, bigger shoe that needs to drop. Because Whitlock hasn't been compensating, promoting, and giving hiring and firing power to Whitlock. The more important issue is why a sports network treats a subject as sensitive, complex, and important as race with such disregard and contempt they allow the Whitlocks and Stephen A. Smiths of the world to flourish.

III. The scariest parts of this piece were those about Whitlock's influence. The notion of him creating a black subsection on espn, and having the ability to hire writers, who would then have to censor themselves and allow his c00nery to continue unchecked lest they risk a paycheck....

IV. Why has it taken so long for this kind of high profile piece to be written? He's a mediocre writer, a racebaiter, a troll, a borderline fool. Yet this piece is coming years after he lined his pockets and ascended to a place of incredible influence within espn. Because people were more concerned about burning bridges and possibly getting a job from him than they were about the basic integrity of being a black person.

V. It's truly sad that blacks have to celebrate common decency as a great victory. There's a piece making the rounds today by a black writer who talks about how tiring it is to write about racism. He compares it to having to write an impassioned opinion piece against drunk drivers murdering children. Is essence: why do we have to keep writing, shouting, passionately pleading for people to demonstrate a decency that should be fundamental, implicit? White and black sports "journalists" alike have been citing black cultural pathology on air and in print as a legitimate sports talking point for years now with no repercussions. It has been an acceptable part of espn discourse to wonder whether bad black parenting makes black players unfit to play point guard, to win championships. This is insanity. And that's not on Whitlock, that's on the people who reward Whitlock. I'm hoping that piece is in the wings, but I highly doubt it.

My biggest problem is not with what he says, it's that how he puts it. He acts and presents himself like he REALLY cares about things like black on black crime or single motherhood in the black community:heh:
He's the ambulance chaser of sports "journalist". Black America has known this. White America was lagging but they saw it once he jumped on the openly gay athlete agenda. He caped haaaaard for the cause for 2 weeks then it was back to blaming black folks again

Between you, @Walt @mastermind and the wide range of opinions and personalities/opinions on this site The Coli could be part breeding ground for writers & editors/part money making generator for EVERYONE involved. I'm much more interested about those implications than another 10 page Jason Whitlock shytfest

I'll never forgive Whitlock for his remarks on Steve McNair after his death and then guest hosting The Jim Rome show right after Steve's passing and mocking the mans death. It's something thats often forgot or never known, because i dont know if there is audio of it on the net. But he was banned from ever hosting the show again.

Same way i'll never forgive Wilbon for his remarks on Sean Taylor

There was nothing new in that screed. I don't agree with Whitlock on some things and I agree with him on others.

The rest of it is spectacle and cheerleading.

And white folks don't really care. At all. When white folks agree with that dude on some nygga shyt laundry he's aired...it holds their attention for a hot second. Nyggas are the ones turning that shyt over and over and over in their heads, thinking of what it means for the community, with regards to how it's intellectually digested by whites and other non-blacks. And they don't fukking care.

So who all this for?

The problem with Whitlock is that you know the angle he is going to take on a topic before he even says a word about it. That angle 99% of the time will turn back to how black people are to blame for injustices committed against blacks and how we do it to ourselves. That's the definition of a hack that is catering to what the white man wants to hear a black man say about other blacks. Honestly at times that line of thinking may apply but when it's your go to angle on any subject it dilutes the message when it does apply.
